What to have ready when you call.
- Where you are. The address, or the nearest cross street and what is around you.
- What you are locked out of. A house, a business or a car. For a car, the year, make and model.
- Something that shows you belong there. Photo ID with the address, a lease or a piece of mail, or the vehicle registration. Any real locksmith will ask.

House, business or car?
The van says lockouts and rekeys, for your home, business and vehicles. Here is what each one looks like from our side of the phone.
Locked out of your house.
Call with the address and which door. Have something with your name and that address on it. If the key is lost rather than inside, ask about a rekey while we are there: new keys, same locks, and the lost key stops working.
Locked out of your business.
Call with the business name, the address and who you are: the owner, a manager or the person who holds the keys. If a key left with an employee, the next step is a rekey of the doors that key opened.
Locked out of your car.
Call with where you are and the year, make and model. Keys locked inside is one job. A lost key is another, and that means a new key has to be cut, so say which it is. Say too if the key is in the trunk or if the car starts with a button rather than a key; both change what we bring.
What a real lockout visit looks like.
Search "locksmith near me" and many of the results are call centers, not shops. Whoever you call, here is what to expect from a real one. Hold us to the same list.
- A business name on the phone, and where they are. Ours is Oakdale Locksmith, 630 N Yosemite Ave.
- A price before anyone comes out. Ask for it, and ask what would change it.
- A question about ID at the door. Expect us to ask. That is how a lockout works when it is done right.
- Drilling only as a last resort. Many lockouts are opened without damage. If a lock does have to be drilled, expect to hear why before any drilling, and say yes or no.
- A marked vehicle. Ours is the van lettered keys, locks, safes, lockouts and rekeys.
Locked out at night?
We are open Monday to Friday, 8 to 5. Call (209) 847-2066 first, whatever the time.
If you do not reach us and you cannot wait, you may have to call someone else tonight. Here is how not to get taken:
- Ask for the business name and where they are. If they will not say, hang up.
- Get the total price before anyone comes out, and ask what could change it.
- Do not let anyone drill a lock without explaining why and getting your OK first.
- If the price at the door is not the price from the phone, you can still say no.
Then call us in the morning if it still needs fixing, or if a lock was drilled and has to be replaced.

Questions people ask.
Do I have to prove it's my house or my car?
Expect to be asked. A real locksmith wants ID and something that ties you to the door: an ID with the address, a lease, a piece of mail, or the vehicle registration. If you cannot put your hands on any of it, say so when you call and we will talk it through.
Will the lock be damaged?
Many lockouts are opened without damage, and drilling is a last resort. If a lock does have to be drilled, expect to hear why before any drilling, and say yes or no. A drilled lock has to be replaced afterward, so ask about that before you say yes.
My key is inside. Do I need a new key?
If the key is inside, getting the door open is usually the whole job. If the key is lost, it is a different job: a house lock can be rekeyed (new keys, same locks) so the lost key stops working, and a car needs a new key cut. Say which one when you call.
Do you come out, or do I come to the shop?
For a lockout, we come to you. Keys are cut at the shop, 630 N Yosemite Ave, Mon–Fri 8–5.
